The focus of this meeting will be the Transportation sector. We will be hearing from a diverse group of speakers covering a wide breadth of infrastructure topics in the transportation sector. Come spend half a day learning more about the intricacies of how the Homeland Security Critical Sectors fit together and how they specifically affect Arizona.
Speakers:
TSA and the Changing Threat Environment: Randy Parsons, Federal Security Director, Department of Homeland Security – TSA, Sky Harbor Airport
Director Parsons will address topics such as domain awareness, mission, resources, and the changing threat environment. He will also talk about information sharing and partnerships among airport management, city management and law enforcement that contribute to success in the TSA mission.
Rail Unit Organization, Responsibilities and Tactics: Sgt Dave O’Dell, Homeland Security Division, Transit Bureau – Light Rail, Phoenix Police Department
Sgt O’Dell’s unit is responsible for security on the Phoenix section of the Metro Light Rail. He will address topics including rail unit organization, available resources, execution of system security, and fare inspection differences between normal operations and special events. He will also cover some of the tactics being used as part of the random anti-terrorism program.
The Union Pacific Railroad Police: Overview, Challenges and Initiatives: Supervisory Special Agent Lucas Melendez, Union Pacific Railroad Police
Special Agent Melendez will provide an overview of the UP railroad police structure, speak to various challenges associated with rail transportation security, and initiatives they have in place to deal with those challenges.
Location: APS Corporate Headquarters, 400 N. 5th Street, Phoenix, AZ. Once inside APS you will be directed to the meeting room.
Parking: Please park in the Arizona Center Garage directly north of the APS building and bring your ticket into the APS building for validation. Note: this garage does get busy, so please allow for time to find a parking spot and to get checked in with APS security. Check-in will be open starting at 12:30. PLEASE ARRIVE EARLY TO ALLOW TIME FOR CHECK-IN. The program will begin promptly at 1:00 pm.
